F March 17, 2006 rest or x-train
S March 18, 2006 x-train. Andrea and I walked my bike to the bike store and picked her bike up. She is all set to accompany me on my long run tomorrow. This is my official 70 minute long novice run. My getting or not getting an iPod depends on my completing this run. Thankfully it doesn't matter how far I run. I will have 70 minutes to contemplete the engraving on the iPod. You may have noticed that we are up to date now. You will now be able to check in on my progress in real-time. We are just one step behind strapping a GPS unit to my back and tracking my location on Google Maps.

I am strangely motivated by reading your latest postings. I was struggling to picture myself running this "speed workout" today that is part of my half marathon training plan. It is officially spring, the "signs" indicate that it really is (some trees have started to bloom only to be alarmed by the sudden downturn in temperature), but today is more like December. They say it wil snow later.
So...I am thinking that I'll probably end up runnng this workout on a treadmill so I can be told by the machine how fast I am running. This is necessary when one has a "goal race pace," since I need to tailor my training around that pace. For you, time is sort of an unexpected outcome of running. I wish I could do that. Time is sometimes a ball and chain but sometimes a worthy goal. Most of the time, it's part of a cool math problem that I am constantly doing in my head (I am always trying to figure out about how fast my miles are based on different variables).

Back to my motivation. For whatever reason, I am now more motivated to run this afternoon/evening.

On Sunday I ran at a state park that had plenty of trails (although I had to loop around a couple of times on parts of the route in order to accumulate 8 miles.) But at any rate, saw someone walking a full blown pit bull which he smartly told to sit down and held firmly while I passed. Given that, I was still anticipating the sound of the flesh of my back side tearing off my body as I inched past them on the trail. No such luck for Mr. Pit Bull. No filet of human this day...

Luckily, Scout (being walked by another far behind me) managed to not get eaten by the Pit Bull as well. Which is better luck than she has had with the last two German Shepherds she has met.

I stepped on many of those spiky brown balls that fall from the trees and not once did I feel like I was crushing anyone's offspring. I only worried about my ankles. Does that make me a bad person?
