Wed 1/31/07 4 miles 42:27

1:30 sunny 43 degrees nearly fullmoon (seems odd)
I arranged my day so that I could run at lunch, knowing that I wouldn't have time after my last appointment. I don't know if you noticed the time but it was actually a pretty fast time for what I have been doing lately and I wasn't really even trying. All my miles were under 11 minutes. Maybe I am getting back into shape. I may try to fit a quick run tomorrow, we will see. I have been reading the book but haven't planned around it yet. Did i tell you that I am trying to convince a guy from work to run the race. He runs 5 miles, several times a week.

Sun 1/28/07 5 miles 59:21 minutes
3:30 43 degrees Sunny

We are having the most wonderful sunset right now. I am thinking this is because we are under an air stagnation advisory. Today I tried a "long" run. It was not really that long but long enough for me since I ran yesterday also. I am not sure I am going to be able to run at all this coming week. I might be able to fit a run in Wednesday morning, if not, Thursday is my first free day.

Sat. 1/27/07 4 miles 44:31 minutes
3:30 sunshine 43 degrees

I got new socks. I didn't wash them before I wore them and I don't think they are as absorbent as my older socks. I didn't run yesterday. I am disappointed in myself. It was a beautiful day and I was working at home. There was no reason not to run other than I am a slug. A and I are going to some Robert Burns party tonight where we are supposed to "taste" all sorts of scotch. I wonder how this will affect my ability to go running tomorrow. I checked out the Tulsa link. It seemed fine as far as races go but I am not sure what else there is in Tulsa.

Tuesday 1/23 4 miles 44:47 minutes
2:30pm 47 degrees misty gray

2 miles - walk 2 minutes - 2 miles. Time only includes the run
Keri has me on a mission to see a seal. She is convinced that I should be able to see them in the Strait. I ran along the water for many days last year and did not see anything that I thought was a seal. Unless they have white tail feathers, I didn't see any today either. I should be able to run Friday - Saturday - Sunday as the weather permits.

Sunday, 1/21/07 (the day the Patriots are not going to the Superbowl)
4 miles, 45:40
Today's run felt quite good.
I have made a little race calendar. March 7 : 5K; April 10: 10K; May 5: 10K, May 20: 10K, June 10: half marathon. I am now working on my training plan. The book involves speed work on a track. I don't have a track that is convenient. I was thinking about measuring out some 1/4 mile distances on the trail to use as laps. I am not really sure how to do this but I will work something out.

1/20/07
I have officially begun training again for the North Olympic Discovery Trail Half marathon.
This first day of training is much different from last year. I have nice shoes, I have the right clothes. I have a new supply of disposable contacts and an iPod. I know the trail. I know how to do lap time on my watch. I can tell the difference between an eagle and a sea gull. I am a very different person than I was this time last year. I am starting my training two weeks earlier.
3 miles 34:17 this was pretty much my limit. My legs didn't feel strong. But, unlike last year, I was able to run the entire time, no walking. Coincidentally, 2/3 of Team Tamara was waiting at the end of the run. They came out to the trail to walk their dog just as I was finishing up. I think of this as some sort of good karma.

I haven't worked out a training schedule yet. My work schedule is crazy. I think I am going to set some weekly mileage goals for the first month rather than a daily thing. I am hoping that I will be able to stick with the running without having to be so rigid about it. I want to try to take advantage of the daylight hours whenever possible. It would be nice to be able to look over my weekly work schedule and plan my runs but I am not that organized.
