T 4/24/07 5.5 miles 58 minutes
9:00 50 degrees; sunny.

tried to get my run in early as I might not get to run for the rest of the week. Another step in my efforts to turn myself into a morning runner. I don't like running 1/2 miles as I don't know where to turn around.

Sun 4/22/07 9 miles 101 minutes
3:00 54 degrees; fluffy clouds

Long run day. It was the first day that I was warm even at the start of the run. Nothing of interest to report. The first mile felt slow but it actually wasn't. I got my old watch back with a new battery and I didn't notice that the settings were different from my preferances so it took me awhile to know what I was looking at. I got tired around mile 7.5. I am wondering if I would have felt as tired if I was able to get some water. I guess I should take some water on long runs. I also need to figure out how to carry my ipod.

W 4/18/07 4 miles 45 minutes
6:45 46 degrees; sunny over the water, black clouds over the mountains. I run in the rain.

The harder it rains the brighter the rainbow.
Today was a speed run practicing my tiny quick steps. I have a hard time doing this correctly but I figure if nothing else trying it once a week is key. I was supposed to have a trip tomorrow but then it got cancelled, but then it turned into a maybe. I don't know what this means to my running. I am trying to transition to a morning runner. So far I managed to get up 1/2 hour early but that is not really enough time to go for a run. If I am successful in this, my trips will not effect my training.

So here is a question when I edit a post do both copies get emailed to you? That would be a drag.

Th 4/17/07 5 miles 55 minutes
6:14 46 degrees; sunny over the water, black clouds over the mountains. I run just between.

Today was the first run with my new watch. I never even checked back at the jeweler today to see if they were able to change the battery in the old watch, I just bought a new one.
Other than that the run was uneventful. It was not a speed run, not a long run, not a tempo run, not even really an easy run. It might have been a tempo run if I knew what that was. I noticed that I was not running at a conversational pace. I am working on a running flow chart as part of my renewed committment to running. Rather than saying my speed runs will be on Wednesday, I will have conditions which take into consideration my recent previous runs. Maybe I will draw it up with funky software and sent it to you.

I am also considering running the North Olympic Discovery Trail half marathon in Ithaca on June 8th or 9th. I figure if someone can run the Boston Marathon in space, I can run my half marathon anywhere I want. I think you should come and run with me. I am going to try to talk Martie into being my support crew - maybe riding a bike along with me. She doesn't know this yet.

4/5 Walked with A-Mo
4/6 No Exercise but No Dinner/Drinking either. I put together my saw - yeah baby!
4/7 10K Came in 3rd and 51st with ten people behind me. 1:12:39. More on this later
4/8 Rest and Taxes but at least I got the taxes completed. I was afraid that I would let it bleed into the week and screw up my resolve to run.
My plan for the week is still to run/x-train everyday.
4/9 4 miles started in the rain but it cleared up.
Felt bad in the beginning. Like my lungs wouldn't work for the first mile. I tried just jogging the last two miles without looking at the time. I still kept time though, I am not quite ready to give that up.
4/10 short walk
4/11 5 miles including a little speed work. 54:52
I am getting close to the end of my week. I am planning a bike ride tomorrow, long run on Saturday and a recovery run on Sunday.

...Pay no attention to the missing days, they are not that important.
4/14 7.5 miles 90 minutes or so.
I actually have no idea how long it took me because my watch is in the shop. I realized after the fact how unhappy it makes me to not have a good watch. I am feeling back on track. I want to do a recovery run tomorrow but we are supposed to go to Tacoma so I don't know if I will have time.
4/15 No recovery run but I did do quite a bit of housework which I feel good about
4/16 No run. When I got home it was raining and I was hungry from having no lunch. However my renewed committment to running does not wain. I shall run again tomorrow!

Th 4/4/07 5 miles 58. minutes
5:25 48 degrees sunny

D'ya miss me? I certainly miss running. Okay, no I don't. I have been traveling, working on Saturdays and pretty much just being lazy. A-Mo got an email from a member of Team Tamara with race plans. I have a 10 K this week-end. This e-mail was the first that A-Mo had really become aware of the race. I have run only once since my last race. I was trying our new speed training. I never blogged about it because I was going to wait and see if it affected my running in any measurable way. I guess what it did was terminate my running altogether.

The other part of my problem is that I have no race to train for. I was going to do the San Juan half marathon in June but I haven't wrapped my mind around that. Consequently, I am not focussed like I was last year. Also, I have already run a half marathon. Even if I fail this, at least I have done it once. It is not as insurmountable as I once thought it was. Of course if I don't get back to a regular running schedule it will become insurmountable.

Did I ever send you an email about the speed work? I loved the mental imagery. I started off as the girl running to the ice cream truck but soon morphed into the Road Runner. I had the mental image of my body just floating along as my legs were spinning out of control. It worked for me.

And so with this blog entry I renew my committment to running.
I ran 5 miles today just to see if I was too far gone to do the 10K on Saturday. I thought 5 miles might be too much after such a long break but whatever. I hope to go for a bike ride tomorrow (& possibly Friday) just to keep the blood pumping. Race Saturday. I hope to finish in 70 minutes. My original goal would have been 60 minutes but...no. Rest Sunday. And then next week start on my new training goal: to exercise everyday. Runs on T-Th-Sat-Sun, bike (or whatever) on M-W-F. Maybe Friday will be a dinner and drinking day. I shall post again on April 15 to let you know how the first full week of my plan worked out. Hopefully I will also have time to do my taxes by then.
