I did not want to go running today! I have no idea why, I just wanted a nap. It may have been because I didn't have a good lunch and had no energy. Maybe it was because I didn't have my normal 20 oz coffee this morning. I was running late and didn't have time to sit in line at the coffee shack. Maybe it was because all my running shirts and pants were in the wash. It wasn't that they were in the dirty clothes basket. I have no problem wearing stinky clothes out running. They were in the washing machine still wet from being washed last night. It is still a bit cold to be refreshed from wearing wet clothes while running. Maybe it was because my knee has hurt a bit and I didn't want it to hurt more. Any one of these reasons is enough to keep me inside. All of them together could only be overcome by the combination of the excitement of listening to the iPod and the joy of blogging to you afterward. I fear these rewards will soon become ineffective. I am still trying to identify the characteristics of a good running song for my ipod list... but back to the running. So I started out slow, not on purpose, it was as fast as I could go. I then tried to go a bit faster once I was warmed up and didn't detest my situation.

I am off to Seattle on Saturday, until Tuesday. I don't know what I will do for my 70 minute run. Maybe there is a exercise room in the hotel.

So I was so focused on my Homework that I forgot to put in my contacts. This isn't really a problem until the walk home and my glasses got all fogged up. I tried to run slower for the first mile. This was hard. It was difficult to think about how fast I was running. I just tried to keep running faster. I purposely ran "fast" for the last half mile which is why that one is split in half. But then it was dark and I ran past the mile marker so my time is not accurate. I have perused my blog from one month ago. I was running for 30 minutes and my "fast" pace was 11 minutes per mile. So I am not sure I am doing too much better. I noticed that I didn't accidently run 13 miles today.

So the most interesting thing about today's run, it was the first one with the iPod. Very cool, but what do you do with the cord? That is really a pain in the butt. Now I am on a quest to get the tempo right on the songs that I have on my running playlist. I need some warm-up songs also. Once again I let my Sunday go too long before I did my run so I was not as rested as I could have been. It didn't seem to matter. I noticed that the iPod drowns out the little voices in my head that complain about minor aches and pains. It also kept me from thinking dreary thoughts after the sun went down.
The second most interesting thing on the run was a police dog getting trained in the water treatment plant parking lot. Being in relatively close proximity to officers keeping the peace was another thing that kept me from thinking dreary thoughts.
I ran longer than my scheduled 75 minutes. I would rather think of my running in terms of distance so I rounded up. 6.5 miles wouldn't have given me 75 minutes. I did a little celebrating at the end of the run thinking that I have now actually run half way. Do I think I could do it again? Not yet. I have noticed that I do run a bit faster now. I think part of that is the iPod.
Next week I go back down to 4-4-70 min. I know that the most imortant thing for me is to develop a good base and not try to do too much too fast. I am thinking of changing my long runs to miles rather than minutes. It was a schedule like this in minutes:
70 - 75 - 70 - 75 - 80 - 85 - 80 - 85* - 90 - 85 - race day
I am thinking of changing to miles: 6 - 7 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 8 - 9* - 10 - 9 -race day.
Do you think this is trying to do too much? the Asterixed day is when the 12k falls in my training schedule.

T March 23, 2006

Time 5:00 Temperature: 61° - 57° Precipitation: None but we had a cloudy overcast sky. do you know what that looks like? The entire sky was a cold gray so the mountains looked all misty, and then we had these darker gray fluffy clouds lower in the sky, almost like rain clouds but no rain.
Distance 4.5 miles
Route:
Home to MP1: Walk
MP 1 to MP 2: 10:26
MP 2 to MP 3: 10:49
MP 3 to MP 3: 10:45
MP 3 to MP 2: 11:22
MP 2 to MP 1.5: 5:45
Total time: 49 minutes.
Thoughts: almost none. My iPod went from China to Alaska yesterday. Andrea is having it tracked:
11:18 AM Left origin SHENZHEN CN
11:17 AM Arrived at FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK
I only include this because it makes my prediction of running an instantaneous race more possible. my iPod already knows how to go back in time. Alas, it traveled from Alaska to Indianapolis.
Here is the info for the race I was talking about:
RHODY RUN 12K
Sunday, May 21, 2006
Ft Worden State Park, Port Townsend, WA
www.rhodyrun.com
I did spend some time on my run today thinking that I can't believe that I am actually doing the running. I could just be sitting on my butt drinking beer and making stuff up about the run. I started to think about what would be different if it was fiction. First, I would run more. It is much easier to get up the energy to pretend to run and blog about it than it is to actually run. Second, my times would be much more regular. I would invent a more consistent pace, and it would be right around 10 minutes per mile because it is easier to calculate miles and total. However, now that I have this body of actual data, I am much more fully prepared to make stuff up if future need arises.

March 21, 2006
I am composing right on my blog page for the first time. I don't remember the template.
Time: 6:20 Temperature: 49 Precipitation: It rained all day in Forks so I was dreading the run but I got home to beautiful weather.
Distance 4.5 miles
Route:
Home to MP1: Walk
MP 1 to MP 2: 10:54
MP 2 to MP 3: 11:14
MP 3 to MP 3: 11:18
MP 3 to MP 2: 11:05
MP 2 to MP 1.5: 5:28
Total time: 50 minutes.
Thoughts: Not many. Andrea rode her bike along the trail. She didn't really stay with me but rode along at the same time as me. It was nice to have company for the walk home. There is a recurring thought that I had at the two mile mark but I can't remember what it is.
Andrea says she ordered me an iPod. It should be here any time now. I was wondering today if after using the iPod for several days, I will go back to just listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks.
I am feeling like I could run in a 5K race right now. What do you think? Should I look for one in the area?

S March 19, 2006
Okay, I did the 70 minute run. I am now performing at the novice level.
Time: 4:40pm Temperature: 44° Precipitation: none, beautiful sunshine. I could see Mt. Baker. I could see other mountains from certain spots but I wasn't sure what they were. My view of Mt. Baker inspired a poem but Andrea didn't like it so I won't record it here.
Length: 70 minutes- 6 miles
Route:
House to MP 1: walked
MP 1 to MP 2: 11:39
MP 2 to MP 3: 11:43
MP 3 to MP 3: 11:27
MP 3 to MP 2: 11:46
MP 2 to MP 1: 12:00
MP 1 to MP 0: 12:12

Total run time: 70 minutes
Walk home and stretch for 25 minutes.
Dogs: 5 Other Joggers: 4 Cyclists: 9
Signs of Spring: I don't remember. There were plenty of blooms and birds. No baby ducks.
My thoughts were bland. I tried pretending that I had an iPod. I started with the words to Bob Seger's "Against the Wind" for obvious reasons. I then scrolled my mental iTunes library and tried a few Melissa Etheridge and Dar Williams tunes. And then I decided that pretending to have an iPod wasn't really working out. I couldn't get past a single verse and chorus of anything. I tried planning my work week. That lasted 5 steps. Then I thought about teaching next year. If this job doesn't get funded I would have to find a teaching job. This led me to thinking about keeping up my running scheduled if I have to teach. As if I am going to have any interest in running after doing a half marathon. I had a glimpse of trying to train for an actual marathon, then back to earth realizing that I was having difficulty finishing 6 miles. I had a pang in my left knee at the 4 mile mark and my pinky toe went a little numb at the 5 mile mark.

F March 17, 2006 rest or x-train
S March 18, 2006 x-train. Andrea and I walked my bike to the bike store and picked her bike up. She is all set to accompany me on my long run tomorrow. This is my official 70 minute long novice run. My getting or not getting an iPod depends on my completing this run. Thankfully it doesn't matter how far I run. I will have 70 minutes to contemplete the engraving on the iPod. You may have noticed that we are up to date now. You will now be able to check in on my progress in real-time. We are just one step behind strapping a GPS unit to my back and tracking my location on Google Maps.

T March 16, 2006 short run 4 miles
Time: 3:40pm Temperature: 48° Precipitation: none, beautiful sunshine. The weather report was saying 80% chance of rain this evening but it is 6:00 right now and I still see plenty of sunshine.
Length: 46 minutes
Route:
House to MP 1: walked
MP 1 to MP 2: 10:49
MP 2 to MP 3: 11:19
MP 3 to MP 3: 11:50
MP 3 to MP 2: 11:32
Total run time: 46 minutes
Walk home and stretch for 25 minutes.
Dogs: 3 Other Joggers: 4
Signs of Spring: the main sign of spring that I am looking for is little baby ducks. I am not seeing them. I thought I saw them the other day but these little baby ducks were so big they must have been born weeks ago. Maybe the little guys don't swim in the strait.
You could count the joggers as signs of spring. I don't usually see runners on the path. It has been mostly cyclists. Do you think those are other novices on the 13 week training schedule for the half marathon and therefore just started this week? Hmm, that is certainly something to think about. I shall watch their progress. Every one of them had an ipod type contraption strapped to their body somewhere. I wish I had one.
My run actually felt good today. I was surprised by my sub 11 minute mile. I wasn't even trying, I was just turning my brain off to the pain. After Tuesdays experience I felt comfortable back on my turf and confident that I would not get eaten by a dog or a big spruce tree. My next task is to run for 70 minutes. I am getting so fast that six miles might not be far enough to last 70 minutes. One of these days I want to go out and pay no attention to my watch and just run to some predetermined spot and back. Maybe compare the time for one way to the time in the other direction. I get too fixated on the time for my mile. Not fixated enough to run faster, just enough to be more concerned about it.

T March 14, 2006 short run 4 miles
Time: 4:00pm Temperature: ?° Precipitation: overcast, could start to drizzle at any time. Of course I am in the Rain Forest so that is probably nothing new.
Length: 50minutes
Route: There: Some of the minutes
Back: The rest of the minutes
Dogs: 5 Other Joggers: 1
Signs of Spring: Hard to say as this was the first time I was really taking in all the sights.
Thoughts: Holy f*** I hate dogs. But here's the story…Once upon a time on the shores of Lake Quinault…
It is Tuesday so I am scheduled for a run. Now that I am a novice there is no question that I will go on the run but this is new terrain for me so I need to check some things out. As I was registering for my room, the woman behind the desk suggested that I just go up the road. "Many joggers run along this road, 4 miles up it turns into a dirt road," she says. Well, I am not going to be running that far so I figure it will do. On the way to my room, I see a jogger going up the very road suggested which I take as a good sign. (I never did see that jogger again). Once in my room my determination wavers. There is a television you see. I don't see much TV unless I am traveling. But I am a novice runner now and cannot be dissuaded from the running plan. Off I go.
Not knowing the distances, I set my watch timer for 11:30. Every time it beeps I have probably run a mile. I usually don't have a problem counting up to 4. This is where the story gets good. I see a sign to the "Worlds Largest Spruce Tree 0.3 miles." I think, hey this would make good blog fodder. The tree is right off the road down a short, muddy, winding path. And there it is, a really big tree. Truthfully, I expected more. It was certainly big around but it was short. It looked like the top was knocked off. The sign tells me that this tree is estimated at to be 1,000 years old. Now I'm thinking okay I've seen some 90 year olds start to shrink. Who knows how short they would become if they were 1,000years old. 1000 is more than 10 time 90. So maybe this tree is impressive. And then I start to think, "Is this what Sarah means when she says that I write about different stuff?" Now I have to turn around and go back to the road. Jogging around the clearing, at one point I look down. I notice that I am stepping on pine cones. Seeing my foot come down on a cluster pine cones suddenly reminds of a movie scene. Did you see the scene in Men In Black when Will Smith steps on the cockroaches to piss off the big cockroach alien? All of a sudden I look up at what is now a HUGE pine tree and expect one of it's 1,000 year old scraggly branches to reach out and protect its young. It doesn't move. I think it is laughing at my fear.
Back on the road. My watch has yet to beep. I run some more. I am running along South Shore Road which runs along the south shore of Lake Quinault which is located in the Rain Forest, so I have some scenery to look at. The road is pretty narrow with no real shoulder but there is also no traffic so I feel pretty safe. (Now that I have escaped from the killer tree). Hey look over there, a herd of Elk. Wha'dayaknow. This is not an everyday sight. That is quite a herd. I have never seen more than 5 or 6 deer in one field. Isn't it spring? Don't wild animals get frisky in the spring. Do you think they think I am some new sort of blue Elk? Do you think they will attack me? Do you think they can even see me?
As these thoughts are streaming through my head I hear, off in the distance, a dog barking. My brain has lost all thought and fear of Elk threat and has now focused on the dog running full speed through the field across the road. I am hoping that the dog is just protecting its property and is warning me to stay on my side of the road. Which is just what I do. And I keep running. My heart is beating a bit faster than normal. My watch beeps. I run. My watch beeps again. I run. I really have to turn around, but I really don't want to go running past that dog again. I formulate the plan to stay on the right side of the road past the dog property. There have been a few cars but mostly going up the road so I should be okay. I turn around. I don't even remember where the dog property is. Oh, there are some Elk so it must be…yes, there it is but no dog. Maybe the dog is in having it's supper. No here it comes. It cleverly waited until I was more than halfway past. I just run. The dog is simply protecting it's territory. I am on the other side of the magic road. And I am already past the house. He should stop any second now. Oh great! It is a corner lot. He is not stopping, he is running down the drive way to the other side of the yard. And now he is running down the road about three feet behind me. For some mysterious reason I start repeating, "I'm okay, I'm okay, I'm okay." I am not sure why I am saying this. Or what I would start to say if the dog actually bit me. Just then a car comes along and I pray for the dog to get hit. The next time I look back the dog is not there. I take stock of myself. This is a test and I have passed. I am a novice runner! I start to think of the motel room, the TV, the beer with dinner, the hot shower, all this awaits me as reward for my trials. It begins to drizzle. I don't care, I am a novice runner.
Bark! Dammit, not another #$%$ DOG. No, two dogs. Here they come right across the magic road. Apparently they can't see the line separating the public road from their dogdom. I stop. I am no longer a novice runner. I am scared out of my wits and start to back into the field. One of the dogs comes right up to me hackles raised, growling, barking and baring his teeth. There is nowhere for me to go. And I just stepped in a puddle. I look at the dog. I know now that I am going to be eaten. I think, I have no ID on me, how will they identify the body? And I say, "GO HOME." Of course it comes out as, "go home." The dog is confused by this. I say it louder and the dogs go back across the road. As soon as I walk back towards the road they come running again. I start shouting at them to stay. Finally some one in the house hears me and calls to the dogs. And I start running again. Suddenly home is further away than it should be. It is drizzly, my foot is wet, I am cold, my timing plan is messed up. It is small comfort that I am alive with all limbs intact.
It has just got to end right? No, I am running along past a cyclist who is stopped by the mailbox. She says to me, "He doesn't bite." Who doesn't bite? Not another dog? How can this be? Here he comes bounding out of the woods. I stand there and let him sniff me for a moment and then I slowly walk away. He is a good dog but I am so terrified that I think this fear will set him off. I make it back to my motel room longing for my seaside trail where all the dogs are on leashes.

S March 12, 2006
I officially cross trained today. I was feeling like my knees were sore. I am not experiencing pain, just a tightness in the joints. I was not interested in enduring the mild discomfort in the beginning of the run and the thought of running for 6 miles was equally uninteresting. Andrea was all set to go with me on her bike but that was not enough motivation for me to get off the couch. I was trying to finish yesterdays blog which I couldn't finish yesterday because I had to go out drinking instead. I didn’t want to forget my bird identification flow chart in case you have occasion to wonder if you are seeing an eagle. After reading your comment on reading about runners I became interested in what they might write that differs from my ramblings. I found some websites on runners, some articles but mostly blogs. My god, why would anyone want to read about that? Here is an excerpt:

Ran an easy, untimed 4 miles today. Weather was a clear 50d. Felt really well today considering I tried to filet my left middle finger. Next run is St. Pats 5K Run. It'll be a first mile decision on whether I enjoy the run, or try to run a time.

The only interesting thing about this was the finger filet, but he doesn't explain that.

Ran a fairly hard 3.7 today. Decided to forgo the speed today for a good hard run. Intended to run 4, but cut it short upon an attack of side cramps. Ate a cheeseburger today (ouch!). Really felt nauseous at about 3.5. Hopefully will be able to run a slow long one tomorrow. (no cheeseburgers) Just some thoughts...as a lifelong baseball fan, my heart goes out to the family of Kirby Puckett…

The more blogs I read, the more I learned about how runners seem fixated on their time. Time, time, time, speed training, miles, target heart rate, pace. All this like they are in some kind of race. Not much moonlight, no bunnies, who know if they have any idea what an eagle looks like, and no one bothers to count the dogs. There was a little bit about shoes. You know I liked that. I did read one collection of tips that actually suggested that you write the date of your race on a calendar so you know where you are headed. I want to meet the person who was actually helped by that suggestion.

I am officially training as a NOVICE. My mother thinks this is funny. Not the me being a novice so much as me having to train to become one. This is a bad week for me though. I will be in Bremerton on Monday, and Queets on Tuesday & Wednesday. I could run while there but I like knowing what my route is. I suppose I could set my watch to beep every 11.5 minutes to keep track of the mileage. Maybe it is not so tragic that I didn't have a long run this week.

S March 11, 2006 short run
Time: 4:20pm Temperature: 45° Precipitation: none, beautiful sunshine. You could see all the way to Mt. Baker as well as other countries. I saw the Ferry ferrying people from other countries.
Length: 45 minutes (and 45 seconds).
Route:
House to MP 1: walked
MP 1 to MP 2: 11:08
MP 2 to MP 3: 11:30
MP 3 to MP 3: 5:49 + 5:39 = 11:28
MP 3 to MP 2: 11:39
Total run time: 46 minutes
Walk home for 25 minutes.
Dogs: 4
Signs of Spring: I saw an eagle. Is that a sign of spring? Recently I posed the question to Andrea, "How do people always know when they see an eagle?" Every time I see a big bird it looks like a seagull. When I saw the eagle I realized how people know and devised myself a flow chart for bird identification.
Is it a BIG bird? > NO > not an eagle
>YES > Do you wonder if it is an eagle? > NO > it is an eagle.
>YES > it is a seagull.
I had to explain it to Andrea several times. It makes perfect sense to me that if there is any question what type of bird it is, then it is not an eagle.

W March 8, 2006 rest
T March 9, 2006 short run 3.5 miles-not
This is the first time that I have specifically not run when I knew I should have. It is COLD out. And I didn't get home until late. Okay well that's not true, I got home early but Katy came home with me so she could meet Andrea. But I won't get home early tomorrow because I am in Bremerton. And tomorrow is Friday so we will have to go out to dinner with the Randersons. I guess I really need to make Saturday a run day, and not a rest day.
Okay, I have read your comments and Andrea has talked to you on the phone. I love the glove idea, Andrea is maybe going to be sick. I shall explore the stretching idea if I ever go running again. BTW, this blog is not funny. It is just me and the things I think about. But more than that, it is a like a conversation that I am having with you. If I were writing this to my mother I would have an entirely different set of observations to share. We chould try that for a few days. Let's imagine that I am writing to my mother and see what we get…or let's not.

F March 10, 2006 rest or x-train or just go out to eat.

Tuesday, March 07, 2006

T March 7, 2006 short run 4 miles, I was only going to go 3.5 but…
Time: 6:00pm Temperature: 42° Precipitation: none, first sunshine, then moonshine, or is that moonlight?
Length: 46 minutes. I have no problem rounding 45 min 59 seconds up to 46
Route:
House to MP 1: walked
MP 1 to MP 2: 11:18
MP 2 to MP 2: 11:29
MP 2 to MP 1: 11:32
MP 1 to MP .5: 5:50
MP .5 to MP 1: 5:49
Total run time: 46 minutes
Walk home for 10 minutes.
Dogs: 1
Signs of Spring: Are bunnies classic signs of spring? I know they are symbols of Easter but I thought that was because of the Easter Bunny. I saw a bunny. Not some skinny, barely survived the winter wild brown rabbit. This was a fluffy, been living on carrots and has a warm place to sleep black and white bunny. I also had a little inch worm on my jacket.
Kleenex: yes but this turned out to be a mistake. Just at the 10 minute mark when my nose started to drip I took out a Kleenex. It sort of slipped as I was unfolding it to blow my nose. You know how you inhale deeper when you are about to blow your nose. Here's a tip, don't inhale the Kleenex.

My perspective of these runs have changed. I don't like the short runs anymore. If I only go out for two or three miles and it takes me one or two miles to warm up, then I don't feel good for most of the run. If I go out for 4 or 5 miles then the bad part seems smaller. I also need some things to do on my non run days. I am going to try to get Andrea out on the bike soon. Tonight was the first time in a long while that I was out after dark. I did not intend to run at night. The internet said that sunset was at 7:07 pm. Here's the thing, when you run for 46 minutes, even if you leave an hour before sunset, you get home right around sunset. Something about the time passing or the earth turning or some science type explanation.
Another item of note: I am wearing my new contacts. By new I mean the ones that I got just before we left Maryland. They are not disposable so it took me awhile to get up the energy to put them in. I know that when I take them out I have to wash them. My other contacts are disposable. I can just take them out of my eyes and throw them in the garbage. They are so old they expired in 2004, and they are like two prescriptions ago so I can't really see as clearly with them in.

Monday, March 06, 2006

M March 6, 2006 rest
I ate salad today. I am going to start working on the diet portion of the getting in shape. More fruits and vegetables for me. I have also taken advantage of this rest day to fix my watch. Now that I know how to retrieve the lap times, I am looking at my lap times. But they are in little tiny numbers at the top of the watch and are hard to see when your arm keeps moving up and down. So I changed the setting so the lap numbers are the big numbers and the total time is in the small numbers.

S March 5, 2006
It has been so long since I have blogged to you, I almost forgot to go running today.
Time: 2:20 pm Temperature: 50° Precipitation: some drops at the start, then sun
Length: 57 min 36 seconds I want to round up to 58 minutes but then I feel guilty. If I round down I don't feel like I am getting credit for my entire run. Every few seconds counts.
Route: House to MP 1: walked
MP 1 to MP 2: 11:19
MP 2 to MP 3: 11:32
MP 3 to MP 4: 11:04 + 0:22
MP 4 to MP 3: 11:56
MP 3 to MP 2: 11:21
Total run time: 57:36
Walk home for 20 minutes.

Dogs: 7
Signs of Spring: All trees are leafing. More birds. I saw a blue jay today.
Kleenex: bandana
Thoughts: I don't like the first two miles. My right knee hurt in the last mile. I need to alter the path of my long run. I need to start finishing at the finish line. I have been stopping before the water treatment plant because that is uphill a bit and I didn't want to have to run uphill just yet. Today I noticed how prepared I was to stop at Mile post 2. If I keep doing this I will never be able to run for the last two miles. I think my long runs should finish at Mile post 0. More on this later. I was excited when I passed the 4 mile mark. My long run is officially longer than my short run will be when I am a "Novice".

S March 4, 2006 rest
I need to stop making Saturdays rest days. Especially since today was beautiful. The sun was shining, birds singing. We didn't even walk to breakfast because I had to teach Math Mania. (Which is like Beattle Mania in no characteristic whatsoever. Actually if you do a search for MANIA on Google you eventually come to "stocking-mania" which gives you "links to thousands of FREE stocking fetish images. From lesbian to hardcore bondage and asian girls." Math Mania is not like this either.) After Math Mania, Andrea took me for french fries and then to test drive the Prius. We already have one on order but realized we haven't really taken it out on the highway. And we had to make sure the new travel mug that I got for christmas will fit in the cup holder.

So we are almost up to real time. It is interesting for me to go back and read some of my earlier posts. And strange to think that I have been "running" for more than a month now.

T March 2, 2006 short run 3+ miles
Time: 5:15 pm Temperature: 48° Precipitation: None, beautiful sunshine
Length: 38 minutes.
Route:
House to MP 1: 3:18
MP 1 to MP 2: 11:06
MP 2 to MP 3: 11:29
MP 3 to MP 2: 11:20
Dicking around with watch: (1:18)
Total run time: 38:32
Walk home, with some stretchy sprints. I didn't time the walk today.

Dogs: 5 with one walker, 1 with two walkers, 1 in the parking lot fetching a stick
Signs of Spring: several pink blossoms on some weed, many trees are beginning to leaf. Fragrant springlike smell intermingled with the faint wafts of sewage from the water treatment plant.
Kleenex: 3, and a bandana which I didn't need at all today. Isn't that typical
Thoughts:
As usual I begin the run with heavy legs, I can hardly breathe, and I doubt I will last three miles. A some point in the run I realize, "Hey, I feel pretty good, this isn't so bad." I look at my watch and sure enough it is at 9 minutes and 54 seconds into the run. That happens every day at the 10 minute mark. Is there a way to get that out of the way before I start my run?
As you can tell from my times listed above, I have figured out how to use the lap time feature on my watch. Well, here's the thing, I have always known how to use the lap time feature. What I didn't know was how to recall the times at the end of the run. Now I can do that too.
I need some stretches or something to do on my walk back. I really like walking through the water treatment plant. I realize that I will have to run through it sometime in the future but for now it provides a nice cool-down period. And mentally I know that I am more than halfway done when I turn around to come home if I plan to stop at MP 2.
